Transition from school to adult life in college, work or the community can be a stressful time for any student. It is important for families and students to have information and resources about the transition process in order to be full participants in the planning process along with school personnel and other professionals.

This curriculum is designed to help prepare students for adult life after high school.
Transition I is available for students in 9th and 10th Grades. Class work consists of:
Transition Coordinators assess student inventories and work closely with instructors to provide guest speakers, plan work site visits and develop internships based on individual student needs and desires.
Guest speakers included professionals in photography, radio, geology, architecture, law enforcement, franchise owners and small business entrepreneurs.
Work site and college tours included The Poughkeepsie Journal, Anderson Center for Autism, Gateway Community Industries, Rocking Horse Ranch, Mike Arteaga’s Fitness Center, Dutchess Community College, Marist College Fashion Department, The Culinary Institute and Ridley-Lowell Business and Technical Institute.
Current internships include work in the automotive field, nursing homes, supermarkets, veterinarian clinics, Goodwill stores and an after-school program for elementary students at a local library.
The instructors and coordinators contribute to the program's success by developing a close rapport with the students through class involvement, individual meetings and job coaching, as well as maintaining a close relationship with the local business community.
